"Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart." Shinichi Suzuki
Suzuki Method Specifics
Welcome to a very unique way of learning an instrument!
Before you begin your first lessons:
Start Listening to the Suzuki Recording VIOLIN or VIOLA
Read "Nurtured by Love"
Observe a lesson and a group class
Be willing to take lessons yourself (just at first!)
Be prepared to insist gently & firmly that your child practice
Decide to trust your child's teacher
Find your sense of humor
Relinquish control of your child's process
Prepare for the ride of your life!
In addition, here are a few readings and videos to get us started. Please read through/watch the videos before your first private lesson (which will be a parent/teacher only session) at which point we will talk through the material, go over any questions and get you started on the instrument:

Observations:
In order to help prepare you for working with your child (and your child to work with you!), please plan to observe 2 private lessons. Observing with your child allows you understand how Suzuki Method lessons work and what is expected from the parent, the student and the teacher. Live lessons/observations also allow me to observe your child and determine their readiness. You may also observe students over Zoom if they are available. Here are a few video links & an observation form to help guide your observations.
Please note:
the following videos are NOT to be shared & are for your viewing only
More information about the Suzuki Method can be found on the SAA webpage
